Weekend Buffet at Sigree | Review
Since my kids have started enjoying and actually eating out at a restaurant we have started going out a bit more. I was exploring the recently launched AskMe App and searched for restaurants around Baner and Aundh, from the search list keeping in mind kids’ tastes and preferences, it was an no brainer to pick Sigree at Aundh.
Visiting Sigree is almost like re-living life 7 years ago. During my stay in Pune (i.e. last 8 years), we have been to Sigree (DP Road) few times but not lately. I have always liked their buffet spread and their desserts quite a bit. I remember trying Gajar ki Kheer once, I came back and emulated that preparation few times at home.
With quite high expectations, we set out for weekend buffet on a rainy Saturday. And I must say the food was quite decent.
In the vegetarian menu, starters included Dhuandhar Paneer Tikka, Basil Tandoori Aloo, Achari Tandoori Bhutta and Shahi Afghani Gobi, which were quite good especially the corn and gobi. For the main course Dal Panchmela was very flavourful and good – a must try. I even heard other patrons praising the dal. They also had my favourite Dahi Wada on the menu – it was a treat. The breads were good and remained springy and chewable after being on the table for more than 15 minutes.
For non-veg, V says that main course was nice but he wasn’t that impressed with the starters.
I look forward to their desserts and this time was no different – Mango Cake, Kheer Kadam, Sewai Kheer, Jalebis along with the usual Fresh Fruits and Ice-cream. Sans exaggerating, the jalebis were very crisp and perfectly done, without the addition of that horrible yellow color which many halwais love to add. The mango cake was very subtle in taste and balanced sweetness. Kheer kadam was one dessert which I highly recommend – a must try.
After telling you what I liked, let me tell you, what I didn’t like – their service. The staff was not prompt in service probably due to lunch hour and weekend buffet rush. Even though we ordered 2 veg buffet and 1 non-veg buffet, they kept bringing only non-veg starters for first 20 minutes – only after repeated request of bringing the veg options for kids, finally they got some. As soon as we got up from the table to serve some buffet spread to the kids, they cleared our starter plates, without letting us finish. Promptness is good but not like this.
