Lohagarh Fort Pune

87

Lohagarh or Lohagadh is a high fort built near Pune. It falls on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. Till few years ago, reaching it was a challenging as one couldn’t drive the vehicle till the base. But today it is possible. You can drive your car or traveler all the way to the base and it’s just few hundred steps to the top.

The one thing which we make time for at least once during rainy season is a short trip around Pune exploring some easy treks and beautiful locales. I always tell my friends and family to visit us during rains. This city is at its best then.

Truly, the rains bring out the beauty like no other. The lush green, innumerable waterfalls and amazing nature treks all within 1-3 hour drive around Pune. All you need is a willingness to explore, love to enjoy nature and some patience to experience heaven as soon as you reach your destination.

Every rainy weekend signals you to travel, explore and enjoy. Luckily for us, all four of us love doing this.

This could be heaven

One such trip is to Lohagarh Fort, which is near Lonavala. My husband has been trekking to it for many years but I have not been able to do it due to pregnancies and then young ones. But now the trek has been reduced and one can drive almost to the base of the fort. So this year was my turn to visit it.

Some more

As a family we have always tried to make our kids engage more in outdoor activities than sit in front of the Idiot box. One such activity is the treks and our kids enjoy and participate as much as us . So its a time which is always filled with laughter, food nibbles and loads of pictures. :)

And I must say the view is breathtaking, bliss and all other adjectives. If you do not believe me, go drive up a weekend there and enjoy Lohagarh Fort.
