There are certain delightful advantages of working with Persistent Systems Ltd. for the family of the employee – they conduct short courses on photography, interior designing, yoga, etc open to family. They have launched women centric programs for allowing them to get back into work post a break.
Among many such initiatives is an annual photography competition open to both employees & their family. It is held in the month of Feb/ March. I had participated in it last year as well as this year.
To my amazement my entry was selected both the years.
I wanted to be selected but wasn’t expecting it as I shoot only with P&S and most entries in a photography competition were shot with a dSLR. A P&S competing with a dSLR was tough.
This competition was no different. But I am glad I participated.
The selection last year gave me confidence in my photography skills and in the fact that this P&S will serve me some more and I can create beautiful images from this too – a potential check so to say for both my skills and the camera.
Last year a simply cut & displayed shot of oranges was selected.
This year when I was submitting, I admit, I was confident of getting selected but to me all images looked great. A tough choice for me to select.
“1150 photographs during the 3 weeks+ submission window. Out of this, approx. 130 photographs have been short-listed for exhibition.”
This year the selected entry is Chocolate Truffles. It is one of my best composed images, but in retrospect I can see that lighting could have been much better. If I have to re-shoot this image, I would keep the composition same, but will surely work on lighting the subject better.
What do you think?
Congrats for your winning! It is really worth to see the P&S compete with DSLR. I too have only P&S but still the eye that captures the image is what worth the win. Celebrate it!
Yes totally agree. And thanks Uma! Do share your stories of P&S. :)
